New Research Findings Highlight Strength of Fort Worth's Meetings and Tourism Industry

Date: 05/15/2008

FORT WORTH, Texas ? The Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau announces new research findings about the economic impact of the meetings and tourism industry in Fort Worth. Prepared by Dean Runyan Associates, the research shows that in 2007, 5.4 million visitors stayed 10.1 million days in Fort Worth and spent $1.2 billion, supporting 12,200 jobs in Fort Worth.

?These research findings further underscore the important role meetings, conventions and leisure travel play in our local economy,? said David DuBois, CMP, CAE, president and CEO of the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau. ?Every local citizen benefits from the tax revenues generated by visitors to our community. These revenues continue to support the quality of life we enjoy in Fort Worth.?

Additional research findings include:

? Visitor spending in Fort Worth generated $29.7 million in local room and sales taxes. This represents more than one-fifth of all local tax receipts, not including property taxes.

? The number of room nights sold in Fort Worth has increased from approximately 2.0 to 2.4 million from 2000 to 2007 ? an average annual increase of 2.9%.

? Fifty-seven percent of all visitor spending ($687 million) in Fort Worth in 2007 was attributable to visitors who stayed in hotels, motels and B&Bs.

More details about the research findings will be presented as part of a celebration of National Tourism Week. The Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau, in conjunction with Amtrak and The T, will be hosting Traditions in Transportation: A Celebration of Tourism in Fort Worth at the Intermodal Transportation Center on Friday, May 16 at 2 p.m. Representatives from the media are invited to attend.
