Fort Worth to Offer Five-Star Experience for Super Bowl XLV in 2011

Date: 06/05/2007

City of Cowboys and Culture Likely to Host High-profile NFL Events

FORT WORTH, Texas ? Fort Worth is already making plans to ensure that the National Football League (NFL) and football fans alike have a five-star experience in the ?City of Cowboys and Culture? during Super Bowl XLV in 2011.

?Hosting high-profile Super Bowl events is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase the outstanding destination that is Fort Worth, Texas,? said David DuBois, president and CEO of the Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau. ?We?re known for being a friendly city that offers visitors and guests a range of reasonably-priced, quality hotels and numerous attractions that appeal to a broad range of interests, including world-class museums and our Historic Stockyards.

According to initial reports from the NFL, Fort Worth will probably host one of the most popular events at the Super Bowl ? Taste of the NFL, the Party with a Purpose. It is the premier food and wine tasting extravaganza featuring a top chef from each of the 31 NFL cities, paired with an alumni or current player from each team. Attendees can sample specialty food, meet the chefs and get photos and autographs from host players and special celebrity guests. Proceeds from the event go to hunger relief organizations in the United States.

Fort Worth also is likely to serve as the headquarters for the American Football Conference (AFC). The AFC team would utilize the Omni Fort Worth Hotel and would practice at Texas Christian University?s (TCU) athletic facilities. Additionally, sponsor parties will be held at Billy Bob?s Texas and other unique Fort Worth venues. The Super Bowl committees and NFL staff are expected to meet in the North Texas area in the late summer or early fall to start the planning process.

?Bringing Super Bowl events to Fort Worth will result in millions of additional tourism dollars as people from around the world travel to Fort Worth before, during and after the game is held. It also supports our efforts towards positioning our city as one of the most exciting new meetings and tourism destinations in the country,? said DuBois. ?We estimate that the economic impact from hotel stays alone will be $10 to $15 million. The events also will receive unparalleled media coverage of the game and Fort Worth as well, furthering our city?s status as a desirable destination.?
