Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau Signs Sales Partnership with Baltimore

Date: 07/03/2007

Multi-city Deal Part of Aggressive Strategy to Boost Convention Business

FORT WORTH, Texas ? The Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau announced today its new partnership with the Baltimore Area Convention and Visitors Association (BACVA). The two-city sales agreement is unique to the convention industry and one of several new innovative sales strategies recently implemented by Fort Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO David DuBois. This new strategy is designed to increase conventions and meetings business generation and enhance Fort Worth?s reputation as a top-tier meeting destination.

DuBois and BACVA President and CEO Tom Noonan have agreed to share two sales managers who will sell both Fort Worth and Baltimore. The first manager hired is Ann Garvey who is based in Maryland and will focus on corporate groups on the East Coast as well as pharmaceutical companies in particular. The second manager will focus on corporate and incentive business in the greater Midwest region. A search for that person is currently underway.

?This exciting new agreement between Fort Worth and Baltimore will allow both cities to aggressively market and sell their convention and meeting opportunities to groups that typically book meetings on a geographic rotation. Often these groups will choose an East Coast venue one year and move to the Midwest the following year,? says DuBois. ?This is a unique opportunity for both cities, and we look forward to the success of this sales and marketing program.?

?This type of partnership is a new approach to selling a city,? says Noonan. ?I believe it will be an effective sales strategy that will enable us to pool our resources and expose Baltimore to new business that may not be familiar with the Baltimore market.?

Goals will be established for both members of the Fort Worth/Baltimore sales team that will be contingent on booking business in both cities. The partnership may also include joint client events and shared marketing messages in the convention trade magazines.

The partnership is based on a national hotel model that encourages groups to sign multi-year contracts that move their meetings to different properties within the brand around the country, often with an incentive for doing so. By joining forces, Fort Worth and Baltimore have the ability to be more competitive by offering possible discounts for booking both cities. Or, if one city isn?t a good fit for a group, the sales manager will work to book the business in the other city.

Fort Worth and Baltimore are similar cities in terms of their convention package and what they can offer groups. DuBois and Noonan continue their talks with bureaus on the West Coast in hopes of rounding out a three-city partnership to appeal to groups on a geographic rotation.
