Green Fort Worth

Fort Worth actively supports green meetings.  Our goal is to provide meeting planners, attendees, and other visitors to the City, an environmentally friendly experience.  Below are a few details on Fort Worth's status as a green destination.

• The Fort Worth Convention Center is presently engaged in an effort to reduce utility consumption through replacement of old, inefficient light fixtures with new energy efficient fixtures and lamps, as well as correction of HVAC control and operational issues to improve efficiency.
• We are mapping a plan to proceed with LEED Certification for the Fort Worth Convention Center. We, along with associations and meeting professionals around the country are committed to reducing the environmental and climate impact of meetings worldwide. The Fort Worth Convention Center will be working throughout 2010 to complete the LEED application process.
• Within the Fort Worth Convention Center, Trinity Food & Beverage is doing its part by:
  • Using recycled paper towels in all back of house areas
  • Featuring biodegradable concession serving trays made from recycled products
  • Gathering 40 percent of its food product from locally produced and/or from local vendors
  • Recycling printer cartridges
  • Using eco-friendly cleaning products; this has decreased the number cleaning chemicals to only five in order to reduce the number of disposable containers and to ensure maximum biodegradability.

• For patron convenience, bins have been placed throughout the facility to collect not only paper, glass and aluminum items to be recycled, but to also collect beverage, food, and other liquid containers composed of polyester-base PETE and petroleum-based HDPE, which are also recyclable.
• In addition to increasing the number of propane-powered vehicles and equipment at the Fort Worth Convention Center, the staff has also been trained to practice green policies with regard to turning lights on and off and closing overhead doors to conserve utilities.
• Hotels across Fort Worth continue to make strides towards being green. Recycling programs for waste, water and other materials are common throughout the city, as well as motion sensitive lighting and thermostats to control energy consumption. Some hotels are also employing the use of rooftop gardens to conserve building energy, filter rainwater, and lower summer temperatures.
• Sundance Square, downtown Fort Worth's 35-block entertainment district, is powered by Green Mountain Energy, the nation's leading provider of cleaner energy and offset solutions.
