Casa Manana certainly has plenty of faith in its only four-year old apprentice program, one where local teenage stage performers, between ages 14-19, audition for various roles in, often, a Broadway-quality musical. In this summer’s edition, Casa plans on presenting the hugely successful, Tony Award-nominated musical, Side Show – to be directed by no less a talent than veteran Broadway choreographer-director, Tom Kosis. The show will run on Casa’s stage July 26th-28.

Kosis certainly has an intimate familiarity with Side Show as, all the way back in 1998, when the show had its original Broadway production, Kosis was its associate director and choreographer. Kosis all but led the show to four Tony Award nods, including a history-making pair of joint Best Actress in a Musical nominations for the show’s stars, Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley.

Side Show is largely based on the story of the conjoined twins, Daisy and Violet Hilton. Through being bound at the hip, the two sisters garnered enormous fame, yet were bereft of any meaningful, rewarding love. It’s a story tracing the sister’s route from England to America, their trying experiences in and around the vaudeville circuit all the way through their Hollywood debut in the cruelly titled 1932 film, Freaks. The all-student cast will feature Chloe Voreis and Molly Franco in the lead, conjoined twin’s roles of Daisy and Violet Hilton, along with Jack Bristol in the role of the Boss, and Charlie Ray playing Buddy Foster.

Meantime, Casa has also given fans of its renowned Children’s Theatre plenty to look forward to with the announcement of its upcoming 2013-14 season. On tap includes Dora the Explorer Live! Dora’s Pirate Adventure (Oct. 11-27); Frosty the Snowman (Nov. 29-Dec. 22); Pinkalicious the Musical (Feb. 7-23, 2014); How I Became a Pirate (Mar. 21-Apr. 6, 2014); and concludes with the perennial family fave, Peter Pan (Apr. 25-May 11, 2014).
