There's a first time for everything. That was my motto on Saturday when my mother and I attended our first opera. We were so excited for this new experience that we made it into a full mother-daughter date night and had a delicious dinner at Del Frisco's Grille before the show. You have to try their BBQ beef flatbread; it's to die for! Then we made our way to the stunning Bass Hall for the main event - the opening night of Pearl Fishers.

Pearl Fishers was an intriguing story of friendship, love, and sacrifice all beautifully sung in French (luckily with English subtitles). The three main characters - Leila, Nadir, and Zurga - were outstanding. I can only imagine what it would be like to open my mouth and have that beautiful of a voice come out. They each conveyed such emotion with their voice, so no matter the language, you knew how they were feeling in that moment. That is serious talent.

I can say that my mom and I both left the show in awe, feeling like much classier and cultured individuals. It was everything I thought it would be and more. Big voices, men in tuxedos and women in ball gowns, and the audience cheering "Bravo! Bravo!" And my mom and I gladly joined right in. We even had a fashion celebrity sighting of Project Runway's Austin Scarlett who designed all of the costumes for With Blood, With Ink.

There's still time for you to catch Pearl Fishers at Bass Hall with showings on April 27th and May 2nd. Or attend any of the other shows that the Fort Worth Opera Festival is offering this season. Get all of the information and tickets at
