With a new year and a new decade in front of us, we have several new ways to enjoy family time in Fort Worth.
Panther Island Ice
Your last opportunity to skate on Fort Worth’s only outdoor ice skating rink is nearing a the rink closes on January 20. Make a day of it, eat some yummy food at the Canteen and stay for a drive-In movie at the Coyote Drive-In. Get the details.
Stockyards Championship Rodeo
Get in the cowboy state of mind before the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo rides into town on January 17. The Stockyards Championship Rodeo is the world's only year-round rodeo operating out of Cowtown Coliseum. The two-hour experience includes: roping and barrel racing, plus rough stock events such as bull riding and bronc riding. Get more details.
Texas Nature Traders
The Fort Worth Zoo offers a program for all children called Texas Nature Traders. This formalized program encourages kids (3 and up) to explore the outdoors and bring fossils, rocks, bones, plants and other artifacts in exchange for points. Traders can redeem points (or save them for future use) for items in the Nature Trader inventory.

Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo
It’s kind of a big deal here in Fort Worth. The Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo runs January 17- February 8. On January 25-26, can catch 30+ events from heifer, poultry and goat shows to Kids Gone Wild. Interested in the rodeo action? Tickets to the nightly PRORODEO and specialty events like Mustang Magic are still available. Plus, Stock Show attendees receive free, same-day admission to the Fort Worth Science and History Museum and National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. Get the details.
Make art come alive (ages 6-12) when you attend the Kimbell Art Museum’s Children’s Workshop Saturday, January 18, at 10 a.m. It’s free and provides a chance for children to explore storytelling and art making with award-winning children’s book authors/illustrators. Clearfork Farmers Market
Spend a lovely January morning among the fresh produce, meats and artisan products from area farms and vendors at the Clearfork Farmers Market. It gets the kids out of the house and a coffee in your hand… and that sounds like a good start to a nice Saturday. Get the details.
Take it "easy like Sunday morning" strolling through the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. While you're there, head for the Livestock Exchange Building at 2 p.m. for a performance by the Cowtown Opry. Get the details.
