Not only does this week mark the celebratory National Day of the American Cowboy, but it also marks the last full week of National Cutting Horse Association's Summer Spectacular! Since July 13, and continuing through August 3rd, NCHA Summer Spectacular is packed with equine excitement at Will Rogers Memorial Center and Coliseum. A judged equine sport, cutting tests a rider and horse’s ability to ride into a herd of cattle and separate an individual cow and keep the cow from returning back to the herd. It becomes a game of horse vs. cow.
Last night, the top 15 youth competitors from across the nation competed in junior and senior division for the honor of National Youth Cutting Horse Association World Champion. Congratulations to all competitors! Don't miss out on the rest of the NCHA action including the Best of the West Trade show, a premier shopping experience in the Amon Carter Exhibit Hall (opens daily at 9:30 a.m; free) where you can discover friendly vendors and unique merchandise tailored for the western lifestyle. To conclude the NCHA Summer Spectacular, don't miss the NCHA Non-Pro and Open Derby Finals! Watch the best 4-year-old horses in the business compete for a huge payday in the Non-Pro and Open Derby Finals on Saturday August 3rd beginning at 3 p.m. in the Will Rogers Coliseum.
This weekend, join NCHA and celebrate National Day of the American Cowboy at Cowboy Palooza Block Party and Street Dance (Saturday, July 27; 6-10pm) in West 7th. Party with NCHA Professional Matt Miller and hundreds of other NCHA member, and dance the night away to the tunes of country music star Sonny Burgess and rising sensation Katy Keenie. Best part? It's free!
