Kimbell Art Museum Expansion: November 27, 2013
The Kimbell Art Museum known as "America's Best Small Museum" just got better! An elegant, light-filled pavilion designed by world-renowned architect Renzo Piano is set to open the day before Thanksgiving (Wednesday, November 27) across the lawn from the museum's original home, a modernist icon designed by Louis Kahn. Highly energy efficient, the Piano Pavilion will use only half the amount of energy per square foot required by the Kahn building. Thirty-six 450-foot-deep geothermal wells help to air condition the building by taking advantage of the natural heating and cooling provided by the earth.
