The historic Stockyards is the perfect background for re-living Texas frontier life during this weekend's Frontier Forts Days. This free two-day event transforms Exchange Avenue in the Stockyards National Historic District into an example of frontier living with encampments of historic Fort Sites from the Texas Forts Trail.

Ten Forts and several other related programs will show what frontier life was all about. You and your family can learn all about frontier living through the memorabilia on display which will include authentic wagons, flags, colorful uniforms and military gear from Texas landmarks. Music, infantry, artillery and cavalry demonstrations along with re-enactors will bring the Texas frontier experience to life.

The Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District is also sponsoring a Frontier Forts Day Levy Ride on May 9th. You can take a ride along the Trinity River, past La Grave field to a chuckwagon lunch then back to the Stockyards. The cost is $15 for this event and a special application must be filled out.

The events begin at 8:30 am on Friday May 9 for the Levy Ride and the Stockyards demonstrations will begin at 10 a.m. and continue through Saturday May 10 at 5 p.m. For more information about the Levy Ride and events, contact (817) 625-9715.
