The Black Lives Matter Movement birthed the images created in The Talk. While the artist holds in high regard the men and women in uniform, this work addresses the many social injustices and systemic inequities that result in higher incarceration rates, racial profiling, and fatalities of black men. The Talk that black families have to have with their sons is a result of a criminal justice system rooted in slavery, Jim Crow Laws, and segregation. The faceless men symbolize this issue’s victims, while the figure-less portraits are the stories not told absent in the news and social media. The Talk is one that we must engage in to address and fix it.

Mr. Darough’s work has been exhibited widely in national and international exhibitions. He has received numerous awards for his photographic works and was a finalist for the prestigious Arnold Newman Prize for New Directions in Photographic Portraiture.

The exhibit is on display from January 16th to March 8 during normal business hours. The artist will be on campus on Wednesday, January 31st at 12pm for an artist talk, and a reception will immediately follow. The exhibit as well as the artist's talk is free and open to the public. We would love for you to join us.
