Freedom Train by artist, Jeff Gottfried, is located in the covered outdoor area between the main lobby of the Texas & Pacific Terminal and the concourse. The artwork commemorates the former "colored waiting room" and honors the contributions of African American railroad workers, including State Representative Garfield Thompson. Freedom Train is composed of three back lit stainless steel silhouettes placed along a railroad track which acts as a timeline to represent the African American railway experience in Fort Worth during the time of segregation to the present. Located below are four bronze plaques with bas relief images and text that provide historical information. The design of the plaques was influenced by the Art Deco architecture of the Texas & Pacific Terminal.
