Fort Worth, TX – Fort Worth has been selected as the host city for the HYX 16th World Wushu Championship. This internationally recognized event will bring together the best wushu practitioners from all over the world to showcase their skills and athleticism in this ancient Chinese martial art.

The World Wushu Championships, which takes place every two years, will be held November 16-20, 2023, at the Fort Worth Convention Center. International Wushu Federation’s (IWUF) signature event will attract over a thousand participants, including athletes from 80+ countries, and is anticipated to bring in over 20,000 attendees.

“We are thrilled to partner with the IWUF to host the World Wushu Championships in Fort Worth,” said Jason Sands, executive director of the Fort Worth Sports Commission. “It’s a chance to highlight a sport that has seen tremendous growth in the US and promote the values and traditions of wushu. It’s also an opportunity for American martial arts enthusiasts to see this sporting event in person.”

Hosted by the IWUF, an official member of the International Olympic Committee, the World Wushu Championships features the highest competitive level within the sport. The championships in Fort Worth will showcase the world’s top athletes displaying a wide range of wushu disciplines, from swordplay to tai chi to full contact sanda fighting.

Wushu, also known as Kungfu, has increased in popularity in the US and around the world in the last few decades. It was recently added as an official sport in the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. The prestigious competition returns to the United States for the first time in nearly three decades. It was last held in the US in Baltimore, Maryland in 1995.
