Big Boy No. 4014 Comes to Fort Worth
As one of America's most iconic railroads, Union Pacific retains its historical equipment and honors its storied past. Case in point: the preservation of Big Boy No. 4014. In May 2019, after a 58-year retirement and three-year restoration project, Big Boy returned to service and regained its title as the world's largest operating steam locomotive.
Big Boy No. 4014 will depart on the "Heartland of America Tour" on Wednesday, Aug. 28 from Cheyenne, Wyoming, and travel across nine additional states: Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. The eight-week tour concludes in late October. No. 4014 will be on display in Fort Worth at the following dates:

Do you anticipate long lines to see Big Boy?
Long wait times are likely. The number of people allowed into the site will be limited in accordance with capacity limits set by the City of Fort Worth. Visitors should anticipate and prepare for long lines and wait times that could require standing for long periods of times. Seats will not be available.
Will there be restrooms available at the event site?
Yes. There will be portable toilets available.
Is there an admission fee to see Big Boy?
Admission is free.
How long is this event? How much time will I have to see Big Boy?
The event is limited to viewing Big Boy, with no other activities planned. We believe people should be able to get a good look at this extraordinary steam locomotive for about 30 minutes, with plenty of time to take photos. Because of capacity limits, we hope people are respectful and mindful of time, allowing as many fans to see Big Boy as possible.

While we strive to provide access to all guests, Big Boy is positioned in a working rail environment with uneven walking surfaces, that may create difficulty for accessibility. Visitors with mobility challenges should be aware that viewing the locomotive requires traversing over uneven walking surfaces, including ballast rock.
