FORT WORTH SPORTS COMMISSION CELEBRATES
TITLE IX 50TH ANNIVERSARY

FORT WORTH SPORTS COMMISSION TO LAUNCH “WOMEN WORTH MEETING” SPORTS PROGRAM IN HONOR OF GROUNDBREAKING LEGISLATION

FORT WORTH, TEXAS (March 2, 2022) – As the anniversary of Title IX approaches on June 23, 2022, the Fort Worth Sports Commission is proud to celebrate the momentous change to American sports by highlighting local women who have made significant contributions to the Fort Worth sports industry. The individuals highlighted are paving the way for women of all ages and shaping the future of sports in Fort Worth.

“We are honored to be highlighting the careers and impact these individuals have had in our community while celebrating Title IX’s milestone of 50 years,” said Jason Sands, executive director of the Fort Worth Sports Commission, a division of Visit Fort Worth.

As part of the Education Amendments of 1972, the federal government created Title IX to prohibit sex discrimination in all federally funded education programs, from kindergarten to postgraduate, including sports. This statute allowed women access to participate in and improve the sports at all levels.

The Fort Worth Sports Commission selection process focused on three qualifications: the individuals participated in college athletics; they currently work in athletics or they work in sporting events or community sports initiatives.

As part of the initiative, the Fort Worth Sports Commission will highlight local Women Worth Meeting through a series of blog posts and communication highlighting each individual and the positive impact they have made in our community through sports. Posts will be made every Wednesday beginning , March 2 – June 23 on @FortWorthSports on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.

The first blog post will go live on March 9th, 2022 and will be updated weekly.  For more information on this program, or to nominate someone who deserves to be recognized, please visit www.WomenWorthMeetingSports.com
