Fort Worth Sports Commission Secures USA Taekwondo National Championship
Fort Worth to host 2024 USA Taekwondo U.S. National Championships
Fort Worth, TX - USA Taekwondo has chosen Fort Worth to host the 2024 U.S. National Championships at the Fort Worth Convention Center July 4-7, expected to bring 1,300 athletes and $3.2 million in direct spending. Fort Worth was chosen as part of a competitive bidding process led by the Fort Worth Sports Commission.
“We are extremely grateful and appreciative of the partnership we have built with USA Taekwondo over the past few years and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome their athletes, coaches, staff and fans to Fort Worth for a memorable championship experience,” said Jason Sands, executive director of the Fort Worth Sports Commission, a division of Visit Fort Worth.
The 2024 U.S. National Championship marks the third USA Taekwondo event Fort Worth has been awarded or hosted in the past 18 months. In June of 2021, USA Taekwondo brought their Regional Championships to Fort Worth followed in May of 2022 by the USA Taekwondo Pan American Series featuring athletes from more than 30 countries. Combined, those two events brought more than $3.1 million for the local economy.
“USA Taekwondo is excited to continue their long-term partnership and collaboration with the Fort Worth Sports Commission by placing the 2024 U.S. Taekwondo National Championships is this outstanding city,” said Christy Simmons, senior director of events & member services at USA Taekwondo. “The enthusiastic support for our events from the Fort Worth Convention Center, hotels, restaurants and the Sports Commission is exceptional.”
This latest win for Fort Worth is part of a comprehensive strategy by the Fort Worth Sports Commission to attract United States Olympic & Para-Olympic Committee Governing Bodies to Fort Worth. Other USOPC Governing Bodies that have awarded or hosted events in Fort Worth in the past few years include USA Gymnastics, USA Wrestling, USA Fencing and USA Table Tennis.
