Barbecue and Texas are synonymous, and in Fort Worth that is no different. Specifically, when it comes to the Near Southside neighborhood just south of I-30 and downtown Fort Worth. This area has become a hub for some of the best barbecue joints in the city and entire state. So, put on your comfiest pants and get ready to take your taste buds for a ride.
Brix Barbecue
One of the most anticipated openings this year is Brix Barbecue’s brick and mortar restaurant, but for now you can still enjoy the delicious ‘cue in the smoke stream right off S. Main Street. Brix slings out some of the best brisket in their homemade smoker, but what makes this spot so special is its burger. Their famous Brix Burger, is a juicy smashburger with perfectly crispy edges that is only sold during Brix After Dark, their Sunday dinner service that often has customer lines of an hour or more. Trust us, the burger is well worth the wait!
Heim Barbecue
Located in the heart of Magnolia, Heim has created a loyal following since before opening its restaurant in 2016. Known for its farm to smoker barbecue, this spot is the original home of bacon burnt ends. They are a must-add-on to any order! Heim is not only a great lunch and dinner spot, but also the perfect place to stop by for breakfast tacos. Options include brisket, bacon burnt ends (of course) or jalapeno cheddar sausage. Breakfast is served daily from 9 to 11 a.m.
Hurtado Barbecue
Recent new kid on the block (although, not to DFW’s barbecue scene), Hurtado Barbecue opened its doors late last year. Originally from Arlington, Hurtado brings its Tex-Mex flair to Fort Worth, or as they like to call it, Mexicue. Their menu has all the usual barbecue offerings, but you’ll also find special items like their Big Red Barbacoa Tostada topped with braised beef cheek, refried beans, cilantro, onions, salsa verde, cotija and Valentina sauce. You’ll also want to add a piece of Mexican cornbread to your order.
Panther City BBQ
If you’re looking for a hearty lunch, look no further than Panther City BBQ. You won’t be disappointed with the pork belly burnt ends or brisket elote (or really anything on the menu)! They have some of the best barbecue sides! It’s also a great spot to grab a drink and a late night bite from their recently added dinner menu that includes street tacos, frito pies and loaded potatoes, just to name a few items. The dessert menu is also worth a look!
