What do you love about living and working in Fort Worth?
For my whole life, Fort Worth has always been my home. I have grown to really appreciate the juxtaposition of how Fort Worth can simultaneously feel like a big city and a small town. There are so many connections to be made, and I love finding new ones every day! It's been so fun working, networking, connecting and serving the community of Fort Worth.
How do you celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?
Growing up we didn't specifically celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we mostly honored our culture through holidays, family gatherings and meals throughout the year. Since becoming an adult, I've had so much fun finding, joining and creating new celebrations recognizing Hispanic/Latin culture. Being of Mexican descent, I love immersing myself in the vibrancy and excitement of my culture through art, music, dance and food. Social media has always been very helpful whenever I want to find the best local events and celebrations. If there is Mariachi, Ballet Folklorico, Cumbia or live music… count me in!
Where do you take family/friends visiting Fort Worth?
When it comes to my favorite spots in Fort Worth, I have a wide range of picks! I mainly prioritize locally owned businesses but frequent everything from mom-and-pop businesses to Instagram worthy spots. My go-tos are brunch at Esperanza's Restaurant & Bakery (Northside location), lattes from Ampersand Coffee, antique shopping at Montgomery Antique Mall, dinner at Teddy Wong's, dancing at Sonidero FW at Low Doubt Bar and late-night tacos from Taqueria Temo!
How has Fort Worth's Hispanic culture and heritage impacted you or your business?
Wow, in countless ways. When I chose to name my business "Cultura Markets & Events", I knew immediately that so many people would be able to resonate with what I was hoping to create and represent. Cultura or "culture" is in everything and everyone, and I've had so much fun creating a beautiful community of entrepreneurs, small business owners, business partners and supporters who have become like family! I take massive pride and joy in being a Latina and I want to show everyone that my culture along with all others are beautiful, unique and deserving of spotlight and recognition.
What advice would you give to Hispanic entrepreneurs and professionals who are just starting out?
Don’t ever feel like you don’t belong or are not worthy or capable of success. Success can come in many forms. Some risks may not always work out, but learning and adapting is how you will achieve success. I always knew that I wanted to work for myself and create something that I am passionate about, so when the opportunity to make that dream a reality arrived, I went for it and never looked back. Important experiences like making connections, networking, getting involved, taking risks, stepping outside of your comfort zone, committing to yourself, your business and your future are how you will continue to flourish.
