Actor LaMonica Garrett to be Honored by Lone Star Film Festival

Fort Worth, TX (October 13, 2022) - The Lone Star Film Festival (LSFF) and the Fort Worth Film Commission (FWFC) are pleased to announce actor LaMonica Garrett as the 2022 Spotlight recipient at the Lone Star Film Festival Gala. The Gala will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 at Hotel Drover. 

 

The Spotlight Award honors a creative artist who has significantly broadened the range of voices, perspectives and stories told through the cinematic arts. The award is designed to acknowledge the accomplishments of an artist who has succeeded in generating equity, inclusion and diversity in the film industry. 

 

Fort Worth writer/director Channing Godfrey Peoples was the inaugural recipient of the Spotlight Award in 2021.

 

“LaMonica Garrett is an exciting and talented actor to watch,” said Chad Mathews, director of the Lone Star Film Festival. “His impressive work in 1883 as Thomas brings to life a perspective and story not typically seen in western cinema. We're thrilled to have him in Fort Worth to receive the Lone Star Film Festival Spotlight Award.”

 

Garrett’s television credits include Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ hit, 1883, The Terminal List on Amazon, OWN’s drama series Delilah, the CW’s Arrowverse series Batwoman, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. Film credits include the award winning, indie drama Clemency the short film The Duke about an NFL player who has suffered multiple concussions, as well as roles in Paramount’s Daddy’s Home, Netflix’s XOXO and Lionsgate’s thriller feature Primal opposite Nicolas Cage. 

 

“Diversity and representation in film and television can change our perception of the way we see ourselves and the world around us,” said actor LaMonica Garrett.  “These storytellers can reach a wide audience to educate, inspire, and motivate positive changes in society. The Spotlight Award embodies all of these things. I am truly honored to be this year's recipient.” 

 

Fort Worth native, writer/director Taylor Sheridan is the 2022 Larry McMurtry Award recipient at the gala. 1883 filmed in Fort Worth over the summer of 2021 in the Stockyards National Historic District and surrounding ranches. 

 

Singer-songwriter and Academy Award winner Ryan Bingham as the 2022 Stephen Bruton Award recipient 

 

Visit Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Film Commission are partnering with the Lone Star Film Festival to produce the 2022 gala and festival.

Individual seats to the gala are available for $750 each and tables start at $12,500. Proceeds of all sales go to the Johnny Langdon Film Education Initiative, which provides film education programs for adults as well as high school aged students interested in the art of cinema.
