As a native Texan who spent nearly six years in New York City, I have come to realize that odd myths exist about the people and culture of Texas: myths like everyone talks with a Texas twang, or everyone has a cowboy hat, owns a horse, and lives on a ranch, or Texans live and die by the state motto "Don't mess with Texas."
