While it’s easy to tout eating healthy and getting exercise, in reality it can be daunting. The good news is there are small things we can do to improve our mental and physical wellbeing without tremendous effort or breaking the bank. Studies show that spending just 20 minutes outside three days a week can help lower stress.
The city of Fort Worth prioritizes the availability of outdoor activities. So take advantage of Fort Worth’s more than 225 sunny days and find a new favorite trail or outdoor spot!
The Great Outdoors
The great thing about the outdoors: they’re always at our fingertips! A quick walk around the office building, a post-meal jaunt through the neighborhood, or accompanying your dog to a dog park are all beneficial to your health. But if you’re looking for more sustained time outside, head to one of these great trails to get your body moving and enjoy the beauty of the city.
Trinity Trails
Fort Worth’s Trinity Trails are a network of over 100 miles of paved and unpaved trails that wind through Fort Worth’s most beautiful natural spaces and several neighborhoods. The trails are perfect for hiking, biking and horseback riding and offer stunning views of the city’s rivers and lakes. Take a leisurely stroll along Trinity Park for views of downtown, or challenge yourself with a long-distance hike.
Airfield Falls
This 2 mile hike is perfect for beginning hikers who want to experience the natural beauty of Fort Worth. Tucked into the Westworth area, the trail offers great views of waterfalls along the Trinity River.
Marion Samson Park
Marion Samson Park is a must-visit destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The hillside park is home to a variety of hiking and mountain biking trails and picnic areas with stunning, hill country-like views over Lake Worth. Speakeasy Loop is a 2.5-mike hike through forested landscapes and gorgeous vistas of the surrounding areas.
Gateway Park
Gateway Park follows the Trinity River’s greenbelt and is largely untouched by human development. The densely-wooded park is a short distance from downtown and encompasses nearly 800 acres with a variety of terrain. West Loop is a slightly longer hike of 3.8 miles, and takes you by a waterfall and through beautiful landscapes.
Gateway is also crisscrossed with mountain biking trails, for the bikers out there. And take your pooches over to Fort Woof Dog Park, one of the most popular dog parks in the city.
