History
The first Stock Show took place in 1896 on the banks of Marine Creek in North Fort Worth where purebred cattle, such as Shorthorns and Herefords, were exhibited for sale. The first Stock Show Parade was held this year as well, beginning a tradition that would last over 120 years.
Two years later, local commercial merchants began exhibiting products at the Stock Show. In 1904, Bill Pickett demonstrated “bulldogging” at the Stock Show, paving the way for the modern rodeo event steer wrestling. Soon after, the Stock Show began to coincide with many other meetings and events in Fort Worth such as the Texas Cattle Raisers Association annual meeting and feature events like Wild West Shows, riding contests and exhibitions of cattle by young people (the forerunners of 4-H Clubs). In the 1920s, the Stock Show also became the place to make a fashion statement with high-crowned wide-brimmed hats, high heeled boots and split riding skirts.
It grew and evolved over the years, resulting in the Stock Show & Rodeo that we know today, a three-week celebration of Western heritage, culture and skill.
2024 Special Events & Live Music
Take part in all the fun and excitement with events like the Best of the West Ranch Rodeo, Best of Mexico Celebraciòn, Cowboys of Color Rodeo, Bulls Night Out Xtreme Bull Riding, Texas Champions Challenge and the FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament.
FWSSR also offers a chance to enjoy local and regional music. Live performances will feature musicians and bands at three venues around Dickies Arena, Bud Light Roadhouse, Corkyard and the Auditorium. Featured artists include Sammy Kershaw, Mariachi Competition, Old Crow Medicine Show, Trace Adkins, Smokey Robinson, FWSSR Fiddle Showdown, Summer Dean, Local Yoakam, Jonathan Terrell and so much more!
